by: Debbie Christopher—The initial thoughts behind this month’s blog began swirling around in my head back in early September as our ladies’ group began our Fall Bible Study*. As my thoughts continued to develop into October, I thought this topic would be perfect for my birthday month, and I decided on the title, ‘WOW! Awesome!’
Seriously, Debbie?!
How strange to use such a title to celebrate my own birthday month! Hang with me through this…and I trust, at the end, you, too, will see your birthday month in the same light.
Our Fall Bible Study this year is based on lessons we can learn about God through the Creation account of Scrpture. Week 1 was an in-depth study of God’s power, authority, and sovereignty as He spoke all things into existence and determined it all good.
As part of our Table Time discussion we talked about the beauty and awesomeness of nature. We shared our favorite places to view God’s wondrous handiwork. Personally, my favorites include the sights along the Rocky and Cascade Mountains. Views of majestic Mt. Hood are among my absolute favorites, and I grab as many photos as I can when we visit the area. I’m sure you’ve seen nature based photos on social media proclaiming God’s beautiful handiwork.
Aah…the beauty and awesomeness of God’s creative handiwork…right?
But, ‘what’ else was created during those miraculous six days?
In essence, God created you and me…
Consider Genesis 1:27, Genesis 1:31 and Psalm 139:14…
Created in the image of God
God’s most precious creation
Very good!
Fearfully (remarkably) and wonderfully made
Let’s return to that Table Time discussion mentioned earlier. As we shared our ‘aahs’, I had a sobering thought. As I shared it with the ladies, we all sat there quietly and contemplated how true this thought shows up in each of our lives.
Why do we ‘aah’ about God’s awesome creation, yet, look in a mirror and say things like:
Ugh, my hair is too…
my nose is too…
my personality is too…
I’m too…
Why do we not see the beauty and awesomeness of God’s favorite, most loved creation? Can you imagine me saying Mt.Hood is too pointy?!
This all reminds me of a conversation I had with our two eldest grands many years ago. They were tweaking/updating their Wii Miis. My grandson asked me why I wasn’t changing mine. I replied, “because I love how I made my Mii, and I like it just the way it is…”
Ouch!
“I will praise You because I have been remarkably and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, and I know this very well.”
Psalms 139:14 HCSB
We are remarkably and wonderfully made…just like Mt. Hood!
